Stazione Sperimentale del Vetro is a national research Institute SSV changed legal status from Azienda Speciale della CCIAA di Venezia into ScpA on 02/05/2013, instituted in 1954 to support Italian glass companies from a technical and scientific point of view. SSV is Italy’s unique official body devoted to studying scientific and technological issues of the glass industry such as raw materials, furnaces, refractories, industrial automation, energy saving and environmental improvement. SSV’s activities are carried out by 47 staff members in laboratories dedicated to  physic and chemical, environmental, optical and thermophysic analyses, architectural glass test, mechanical tests. SSV employs the most sophisticated, state-of-the-art analyses equipments and carries out RD&I projects with industries, universities and Research Institutes. Amongst them, the LIFE projects WBRM on reinforcing fibers from waste, VALIRE on reuse of incinerator slag and ash, and the 5th FP project on recycling of end-of-life cathode Ray Tube Glass. Under Italian Law SSV is listed among Italy’s highly-qualified institutes in the field of applied research and authorised to act as a glass testing laboratory within the application of EU Directive 89/106 on construction materials (CE marking- Notified Body n. 1694). It is accredited by ACCREDIA-ILAC-MRA in compliance with UNI CEI EN IS0/ IEC 17025 (http://www.accredia.it/ita/index.htm ->, Laboratori ->, n.0073). SSV takes part in the work of national (UNI) and international ( CEN-IS0) 0rganizations for Standardization, published more than 650 articles on National and international magazines and  is  holder of 6 patents. SSV has a long experience on photovoltaics (PV).  It collaborated with different producers of glass for PV applications to improve its quality and characterize optical properties. SSV is member of the Technical Committee TC 13 of the International Commission on Glass ICG which works on glass and PV modulus optical properties.
